Organic City Garden

I have just arrived back from a break with family in the US and saw some Monarch butterflies that appeared to be "drinking" in the sand at the edge of a man-made lake/beach!

Some of the family thought that they were there through exhaustion and were probably dying because they weren't moving very much.

However I noticed their proboscii (sic) were embedded in the sand near the water's edge and concluded they were having a well-earned drink!

It upset my children a little less too!

Was I right you think?

Regards, Chris

The plant looks like Indian Hemp (Apocynum cannibinum). It should ooze white latex when damaged.
