We were invited to visit the family ranch property of a dear friend of ours, located north of Gainesville, Texas. We've been out there many times and I love to check out the ever changing flora.
On this summer visit, the standout plant was Euphorbia marginata a.k.a. Snow in Summer, which I once grew in my Brooklyn garden. You can see the snowy effect in the top image.
It's great fun to roam the property and get a lay of the land. There are woods, a creek and lots of prairie areas.
Near the creek, I spotted this Mist flower (Eupatorium greggii) amongst some Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia).
Though I know nothing about horses, I summoned my courage and attempted a brief ride on Smokey, whom they've been training. In my few previous attempts, I've only ridden docile, obedient types, so I was reminded that horses have a mind of their own and don't particularly care to go where you direct them.
It is a wonderful privilege to connect with nature and enjoy adventure in this place. Many thanks to my dear friends for welcoming us.
